Did you grow up reading the Percy Jackson books? We along with thousands of young children grew up with the touching tales of Percy and his friends. The books managed to tie the ideas of Greek mythology, friendship, action, family, and identity all into one incredible storyline. Percy Jackson and the Olympians the TV series premiered on December 19th, 2023 starring Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri. The series tells the story of a 12-year-old boy, Percy Jackson, who has to come to terms with his newfound divine powers when he learns that his true father is Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy sets out to become a hero by undertaking a quest across the United States to find the entrance to the Underworld and stop a war between the gods. The books as well as the series are filled with humor but also important knowledge surrounding the classical heritage of Greece making them a good read/watch for children with all kinds of interests. While the show does go a bit off of the original storyline, for the most part, it follows the tale that Rick Riordan, the author of the stories, wrote. This is something that we really appreciate in the adaptation of the beloved series! Overall we both thoroughly enjoyed watching this series and found ourselves rooting for the characters to succeed in their quest. Even though we did wish there were more in-depth action scenes like the ones explained in the book, the show definitely made up for that with its exciting and gripping plot. The actors’ performances were good especially as the main three were relatively young when the show first started. The chemistry between them is clear to all the watchers making us really fall in love with them as characters. Therefore, even though there were a few things that we thought could have been done better, we loved watching this show! We definitely recommend watching Percy Jackson and The Olympians, with all episodes streaming now on Disney +!
